Growth Won’t Fix A Leak

A school leader once told me:

“We just need more students and everything will be fine.”

At the time, enrollment was growing. New families were coming in. Classrooms were filling up.

But the stress wasn’t going away.

  • Payroll was still tight.

  • Cash still felt unpredictable.

  • There was never “quite enough.”

A few months later, we found the real issue.

  • It wasn’t enrollment.

  • It was a leaking bucket.

  • Tuition wasn’t being fully collected.

  • Costs per student weren’t clearly understood.

  • Decisions were being made without clear financial visibility.

So even as more students came in… money kept leaking out.

Growth didn’t fix the problem – it exposed it.

Something to think about:

If your school added 20 more students tomorrow…
would your finances feel better – or more strained?
