Growth Won’t Fix A Leak
A school leader once told me:
“We just need more students and everything will be fine.”
At the time, enrollment was growing. New families were coming in. Classrooms were filling up.
But the stress wasn’t going away.
Payroll was still tight.
Cash still felt unpredictable.
There was never “quite enough.”
A few months later, we found the real issue.
It wasn’t enrollment.
It was a leaking bucket.
Tuition wasn’t being fully collected.
Costs per student weren’t clearly understood.
Decisions were being made without clear financial visibility.
So even as more students came in… money kept leaking out.
Growth didn’t fix the problem – it exposed it.
Something to think about:
If your school added 20 more students tomorrow…
would your finances feel better – or more strained?
