A $0 Difference Doesn't Always Mean You're Reconciled

QuickBooks says your reconciliation difference is $0.

‍ ‍

Great! You're reconciled.

‍ ‍

Well...maybe.

‍ ‍

One of the most common QuickBooks Online problems I see is duplicate transactions.

‍ ‍

A transaction gets entered manually.

‍ ‍

Then it downloads through the bank feed.

‍ ‍

Instead of matching the two, the downloaded transaction gets added again.

‍ ‍

Now you have two.

‍ ‍

And here's the tricky part: you can potentially complete a reconciliation while that duplicate remains sitting in your books as an uncleared transaction.

‍ ‍

The bank feed is an incredible tool.

‍ ‍

But it's a tool—not a substitute for review.

‍ ‍

Periodically look at old, uncleared transactions. If something has been sitting there for months, ask why.

‍ ‍

Sometimes one little investigation uncovers a much bigger issue.

‍ ‍

Something to think about:

‍ ‍

When was the last time someone reviewed your old, uncleared transactions?

‍ ‍

If your QBO file could use a second set of eyes, let's talk.
